As a family we have all experienced the benefits of yoga. Both Kelly and I participate in regular classes, and from time to time Trevor joins one of my classes. Trevor’s ability to focus and follow along is limited, so he is a work-in-process. Our practice enhances flexibility, strength, and balance, as well as providing a nice outlet for managing stress. We also have found that our studios offer a welcoming place to broaden our community of friends.
One of my instructors recently told me about Leslie Kaminoff, an internationally acclaimed yoga educator in the heart of New York! He specializes in workshops focused on teaching yoga and breath anatomy, and is the founder of The Breathing Project, a studio in New York dedicated to teaching the individualized, breath-centered principles of Yoga in the tradition of Desikachar and Krishnamacharya. One thing I think is very cool about this project is that they offer free yoga classes for adults who struggle with emotional distress or mental illness. This year they are celebrating 10 years of service to the community – very cool!
On our next visit to New York we hope to work in a class at the studio and meet Leslie if possible.
