On a recent trip to the beach Trevor and I were checking out a bookstore and came across the book Swimmy by Leo Lionni. The book was originally published in April of 1973, the year I would have been six! When I saw it sitting on the shelf I could hardly believe it. It’s mostly a picture book about a little fish born black when all his brothers and sisters are born red, who learns some important lessons about life. I believe Leo won a bunch of awards for the book, which Trevor and I read on the spot. He liked the story even though it really was for little kids. I think he is intrigued by seeing things that were important to me when I was young and growing up.
I suppose it’s a little sick I write about a cute children’s story involving a little fish when the photo today is of a bunch of fish on ice. But what can I say, the picture reminded me of the book!
