While I know this image has some serious ghosting and halo effects on the buildings due to my naïve HDR processing, I still like the shot. It was among my first HDR attempts and it motivated me to do more. At the time I had not yet purchased my Sigma wide angle lens so I wasn’t able to get the entire “Staten Island Ferry” sign in the photo.
One thing picture taking in NYC has taught me is that experimentation is good. Don’t be afraid to move all the dials around on your camera and see what happens. I remember – not too many years back – when I shot with film and had to wait until it was processed to see how a roll had turned out. It was expensive to experiment so often that I held back taking risks. But now with digital you can do it freely and see the results instantaneously!
