Have you ever seen the movie Stigmata with Patricia Arquette and Gabriel Byrne? It came out in 1999 and was a thriller about a Catholic priest sent from the Vatican to investigate a woman in New York City who apparently was inflicted with the stigmata wounds. I bring this up because every time I visit St. Patrick’s Cathedral I think about that movie!
There is one particular scene set in a church where one priest challenges another on the roll of the Catholic church in finding God. He says, God is not found inside four walls, but instead found in each and every person’s heart. I love that part of the movie and I think Pope Francis would as well! I really like this guy and the compassionate energy he brings to a powerful institution that has needed help for some time.
So the image today of the giant doors at Saint Patricks Cathedral is in honor of Pope Francis and all the doors we go through in life, including those inside our heart.
