I really hate to admit this, but despite being on a whole food plant based diet for the past six months, the results from my recent blood work indicate my total cholesterol level has increased! It’s now significantly over the traditional 200 mg/dl cutoff.
MY NEW PLAN
While my giving up of animal products is about more than just health, I would be lying if I didn’t say I am quite disappointed in this outcome. Here is what I’m going to start focusing on:
I know total cholesterol is not the entire story. Recent evidence suggests the number of LDL particles may be a more precise indication of how healthy I am, so I plan to get another test soon and test this factor.
2) EAT HEALTHIER
When I think back over the past few months about my diet, numerous times I have justified eating foods that are vegan or loosely vegan, but not so healthy (movie theater popcorn comes to mind). So my plan is to really adhere to what is meant by a whole food plant based diet, and cut out all junk foods, period.
3) DO AEROBIC TRAINING
While I have consistently done yoga for the past six months, my aerobic workouts have been nonexistent for weeks at a time. Evidence is clear that regular aerobic and weight training are critical components to good health and contribute to lowering levels of cholesterol. So no more excuses, back to the gym to sweat daily I go.
Will the plan work? You know I will blog about at some point !
