One of the interesting things about walking around New York City is that squeezed between giant skyscrapers are these historic old churches reminiscent of times past. Most often they are protected by some type of ornamental fence, have gravestones nearby, and seem quite out of place amidst the urban landscape. While I know churches are a place of refuge, I will admit that this church scared me. In some ways it seemed like it was on fire and had a furious energy all its own.
TRICK OR TREAT, GIVE ME SOME FRUIT TO EAT
I am reaching with the fruit, trick-or-treating is all about the candy! Unfortunately, such savory sweet treats by the bag-full are not so good for us. When my son was younger he wasn’t very interested in sugar, so who do you think ate all of his candy? My wife? Huh! No. Now his palate has evolved and candy is cool. Fortunately, my wife’s dentist participates in a Halloween Candy Buy Back Program where he pays kids $1 per pound for their unopened candy. My son is smart enough to know that money is worth more than candy, so I rest a little easier knowing that the loot leaves the house within days.
