I have spent many evenings in Manhattan, but this night was spectacular! It was about 70 degrees, no wind, and the park was as quiet and calm as I have ever experienced it. While I have gone into the almost 800 acre park at night in the past, never have I ventured beyond the edges for fear of running into some unscrupulous characters. But not long ago, I did some online research suggesting the park is among the safest places in Manhattan all hours of the night, so I decided it was time for the risk. And guess what…no worries!
I saw many people at 11pm running alone, couples walking, necking, and kissing, and many groups of young kids playfully hanging out. Never did I feel an inkling of fear, which is really the way it should be! Because I felt safe I took my time setting up many shots, including the image today.
Interestingly, I have taken photos from this same spot many times and never been happy with a shot until now. Sometimes we can see things over and over in life, and yet not really see them at all…until we are meant to.
