It’s only fitting that we end 2013 with an image of the place that inspired this blog and our evolving lifestyle – New York City! After 23 cross-country trips together as a family, we have learned a lot about what matters most to us.
Clicha as it sounds, we know being together and focusing on the basics goes a long ways. We have worked hard to preserve weekends at our little cabin in the woods, away from the hustle and bustle of our weekly routines. Being in nature is not a luxury, it’s an innate human need. Meandering through tall forests, skipping rocks across the lake, and snuggling up together under blankets when snow is falling outside are gifts we no longer take for granted. These are times critical for awakening our faith in what life is all about.
And just as inspiring as nature has been for us, so has our evolution with visits to New York. While initially motivated by seeing a doctor for our son, they have come to mean so much more! We have developed wonderful new friendships, experienced shows that have moved us to tears, and all matured in a strange way just by being exposed to the melting pot of interesting people that inhabit the city. The trips have also stirred us to want to travel more. Our house is up for sale in large part so we can downsize, become more lean and flexible, and build our future around seeing the world.
We would be amiss if we did not say that we are ending this year also with a bit of trepidation for what the new year will bring. So much in our life is up in the air right now, which is both exciting and scary at the same time! We do know that if we focus our energies on what is most important, honor our natural gifts, and work together as a family, life will become its own reward.
We so appreciate all of you who have joined us on this blog, and promise to bring you many cool and exciting things in 2014! Have a wonderful and safe New Years Eve.
