We have a new tagline for the site:
One Family’s Pursuit of the Middle-Way Lifestyle
What exactly is the middle-way lifestyle you ask? It’s a way of living that has been evolving for us ever since we began taking cross-country trips to New York every quarter and spending many weekends at our forest service cabin in the woods. In essence, it’s the idea that we enjoy being on the road and engaging in adventures away from home, and at the same time, appreciate having a home base where we can feel grounded and participate regularly in a community of family and friends.
The middle-way term was first used in the Dhammacakkappavattana Sutta, the first text outlining the teachings of the Buddha after his awakening and enlightenment. He says life is best lived when we operate between the extremes, in the land of moderation. His advice was to avoid indulging in the pleasure of our senses and not fall victim to a life of self-mortification. By walking a middle path we can grow wise in our ways.
By living a middle-way lifestyle we hope to benefit from the rewards of travel and the wisdom that comes from a community of close relationships. While we have not quite worked out all the nuts and bolts of how we intend to optimize our middle-way destiny, trust we will post much more about it in the months to come.
