My mother is having back surgery today, so I spent some time in my morning meditation praying for a good outcome. I have been doing this for years for family and friends going under the knife, because I believe it can make a difference.
Years ago I read Larry Dossey’s book, Healing Words, that details evidence indicating that prayer can significantly impact health outcomes. If you don’t know Larry, he is about as far away from a New Ager as you can get, but he is also not afraid to venture into territory for which doctors seldom tread. In his opinion, prayer does not replace medicine, it’s an important adjunct that can be beneficial with no side effects.
If you, or someone you care about, will soon have surgery, I urge you to read Larry’s book. So often when those we care about require a serious operation, we feel helpless. You don’t even have to be religious or believe in God to impact outcomes. You simply need to spend contemplative time sending positive thoughts there way.
