We have been quite stressed lately and know that one of the best antidotes is time in nature. While in Costa Rica with my father, we ventured down a path to this pristine waterfall. It was towards the end of our hiking day and we were quite tired having gone up and down many stairs, steps, and irregular paths, but the effort was worth it! Once we arrived and began taking in the beauty of the falls, I felt a sense of renewal. The sound of the water, the smell of the forest, the color of the foliage were a symphony for the senses.
The image reminds me of how important nature is in our lives, and how tense I feel when I have been away from it for too long. Fortunately, nature is all around us, and the simple fix is just paying attention to what is available in the now. A bird flying overhead, a flower growing through the pavement, a squirrel scuttling across the fence. I feel better already.
